Who we are
Strawmoddie Theatre is a grassroots company based in Edinburgh, founded in 2015. We began with site-specific and horror theatre, and have since grown into a company known for bold adaptations, inventive staging, and a balance of wit and seriousness. Our work often brings literature to life on stage, with a special love for Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, adapted by Stephen Briggs, alongside original and historically inspired productions.
From immersive stagings in unusual venues to large-scale ensemble performances at the Pleasance and the Edinburgh Fringe, we aim to make theatre that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. Whether exploring the absurdities of Ankh-Morpork or the chilling realism of Conspiracy, our productions highlight character, storytelling and imagination.
At the heart of Strawmoddie are our fantastic volunteers, who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from across the third and creative sectors. Over the past few years, we’ve built a strong pool of actors and creatives, enabling us to market, produce and perform shows that are both well-loved and well-reviewed. None of this would be possible without the support of our amazing community, and we look forward to continuing to grow, create and share theatre that feels alive, playful, daring and open to everyone.
